Components:

Regarding the filling of meat:

500g of beef mince

One onion, chopped finely

Two diced carrots

Two minced garlic cloves

Two tablespoons of tomato paste

One cup of beef broth

1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

One teaspoon of dried thyme

Dried rosemary, 1 teaspoon

Half a cup of frozen peas

To taste, add salt and pepper.

Two tablespoons of olive oil

For the topping of mashed potatoes:

One kilogram of chopped and peeled potatoes

50g of butter

Half a cup of milk

Half a cup of grated cheddar cheese (optional)

To taste, add salt and pepper.

Directions:

First get the mashed potatoes ready.

Bring a big pot of salted water to a boil with the chopped potatoes.

Cook until tender, 15 to 20 minutes.

After draining, put the potatoes back in the pot.

Mash in milk and butter until creamy and smooth.

Add salt and pepper for seasoning. If using, stir in grated cheese. Put aside.

Step 2: Cook the Meat Filling

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.

  2. Add chopped onions and carrots, cooking for 5 minutes until softened.

  3. Stir in minced garlic and cook for another minute.

  4. Add minced beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon.

  5. Stir in tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, and rosemary.

  6. Pour in beef broth and let the mixture simmer for 10 minutes until slightly thickened.

  7. Stir in frozen peas and season with salt and pepper to taste.

Step 3: Put the Cottage Pie Together

Set the oven temperature to 200°C (400°F).

Place the meat filling in a baking dish and level it out.

Using a spatula, spread the mashed potatoes evenly over the meat.

To achieve a crispy top, add texture to the surface using a fork.

Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until golden brown, in a preheated oven.

Step 4: Present and Savor!

Before serving, let the cottage pie cool for a few minutes. For a well-rounded supper, serve it with a fresh salad or a side of green beans.

Advice:

Incorporate a little red wine into the meat filling to enhance its flavor.

For a classic Shepherd's Pie, use minced lamb instead of beef.

For a crispy, cheesy crust, top with more cheese before baking.
